Online elder abuse training tool

Domain Aged Care has partnered with registered training organisation Industry Education and Training Services to develop an online elder abuse training module.

The e-learning tool is aimed at all level of employees within aged care. It demonstrates how to recognise and report elder abuse.

The demonstration was prompted by the amendment to the Aged Care Act last year which introduced mandatory reporting for elder abuse in Commonwealth-funded aged care facility.

Funded by the national training system's e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework, the demonstration guides learners through a range of areas using interactive scenarios, audio, graphics, hyperlinks and text.

Topics covered by the demonstration include definitions of elder abuse and reporting requirements as well as an overview of the relevant legislation and the Aged Care Complaints Investigation Scheme.

Staff members complete the demonstration by undertaking a series of online assessments.

The demonstration can be credited towards the Orientation to Aged Care unit of competency within the Community Services Training Package.
