Melbourne facility goes into administration

The Bridgewater aged care facility in the Melbourne suburb of Roxburgh Park has gone into administration.

At this stage it seems that the home will close and the residents will have to be relocated and the Department of Health and Ageing has issued a statement saying it would ensure a safe, convenient and orderly relocation of residents to other aged care facilities if the need arises.

Its comprehensive support plan includes the provision of a relocation adviser and case manager for each resident, where necessary.

ACCV CEO, Gerard Mansour said nearby aged care providers have expressed their willingness to lend a hand as well.

"I have been delighted with the number of calls from our members in the surrounding area, offering support," he said.

"They understand the gravity of the situation and if there is a call for them to provide assistance, we will all be looking forward to mobilising whatever support is requested."

The Bridgewater facility was opened in 2004 and had 107 residents, although the facility’s website said it had a 132-bed capacity.

The Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot said the Department was holding meetings with the administrators from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

She gave her assurance that residents and their families that residents would continue to receive appropriate care and that their bonds would be protected.

“The welfare and well being of residents is my primary concern. They come first,” said Mrs Elliot.

It is understood that the Department has advised the administrators to appoint a nurse advisor.

As part of its contingency plans the Department will also provide care and support staff, cleaning, laundry, catering and support.

The Department and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency are working closely with the home to ensure that ongoing care for residents is ensured.

In 2006, the Agency found that the home complied with all 44 accreditation standards, granting it three years’ accreditation.
