New person in the top job at Baptistcare

The new CEO of Baptistcare in Western Australia comes to the position with a wealth of experience in the not-for-profit sector and a desire to listen.

Dr Lucy Morris spent the past four years as CEO of the Joondalup-based charity, Community Vision and has held senior positions in not-for-profit organisations since emigrating from the UK to Australia in 1991.

Having completed a PhD on leadership, spirituality, ethics and values in non-government organisations through Curtin University of Technology, Dr Morris is interested in the way not-for-profits understand their role and conduct themselves.

As the population ages, she believes aged care services will need to become more responsive to the needs of clients and staff members.

“The way we deliver our services needs to continue to improve,” she said. “The people who are ageing at the moment are expecting more and different things than in the past.”

“We are all getting older ourselves and if we talk and listen to our clients, I am sure we will hear an interesting and different story.”

Dr Morris has also expressed a desire to work with other aged care providers to ways to overcome the lack of available skilled workers in WA.

“Finding the right staff and keeping them is one of the biggest challenges that faces us as an employer,” she said

“I know a lot of my colleagues in other organisations are already looking and thinking at how we can do things different in this area.”

“Resources are so limited in our world that we need to share resources, ideas and suggestions for improvement help each other.”

Dr Morris replaces Ken Ridge, who resigned earlier this year after working for 18 years as CEO of Baptistcare.
