Australia’s largest health and community services superannuation fund has announced a series of changes to its board.

Three new faces have joined the board and a new chair and deputy chair have been appointed.

Angela Emslie who has been a board member since 1994 is the new HESTA chair and ANF federal secretary, Ged Kearney is her deputy.

The board’s new members include: Maree O’Halloran, a lawyer and director of the NSW Welfare Rights Centre; Prue Power, the executive director of the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association; and Tim Lyons, assistant secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

HESTA CEO, Anne-Marie Corboy said she was looking forward to working with the new directors.

“With the new appointees, we now have very broad representation from across health and community services nationally and their skills and experience will benefit our 680,000-strong membership base,” she said.

“I am pleased that we have also achieved gender balance on the Board, and the key positions of Chair, Deputy Chair and CEO held by women.”

Other HESTA board members include Glenn Bunney, the CEO of Queensland aged care provider Sundale, and Tony Smith, the President of Aged Care Association Australia – Tasmania.

HESTA has $15 billion in assets and 84 per cent of its members are women.
