Benetas broadens its role

The Victorian provider is boosting its involvement in advocacy with the development of a new position.

Victorian provider Benetas has established a new research manager position as it looks to increase its role as an advocate for older Australians.

Alan Gruner has followed CEO, Sandra Hills from the Brotherhood of Laurence to take up the new role, which will begin next week.

Ms Hills said the appointment signals a new focus for the sixty-year-old aged and community care organisation.

“2010 represents an exciting year for Benetas,” she said. “Under [Mr Gruner’s] leadership our new research and advocacy agenda will help us build a strong evidence base for our services and inform how we care for older Victorians now and into the future.”

“We will share what we learn from our consumers, families and carers with governments, the sector and the community to bring about a better quality of life and positive and fulfilling experiences of ageing for all older people.”

Mr Gruner comes to Benetas with more than twenty years of senior management experience in aged care, local government and the not-for-profit sector.

At the Brotherhood of St Laurence he oversaw a number of innovative research and development projects aimed at influencing social and economic policy.

“I believe Benetas has a key role in advocating for and with the people we support and assist to bring about a better quality of life for older people,” said Mr Gruner.

“In this role I’m keen to ensure older people have a voice, as well as choices, to determine the type of lives they wish to lead.
