ACT HACC Boost

The Austrralian and ACT Governments have announced a $1.9 million boost to HACC funding in the capital territory.

The Commonwealth and ACT Governments have pledged a further $1.9 million in funding for Home and Community Care (HACC) in the capital territory.

Part of the funding will be used to extend the operating hours of the Aged Care and Rehabilitation Services at Kirra, Belconnen and Tuggeranong day care centres.

$250,000 will be used to upgrade the essential care equipment provided under the ACT Equipment Scheme.

Service hours for domestic assistance, personal care, home maintenance, respite care and centre-based day care, are expected to increase by about 6.2 per cent during the year too.

The ACT’s HACC target population for 2007-2008 is nearly 28,000 – about eight per cent of the territory’s total population.

The additional funding represents an increase of 8.6 per cent over the previous year’s funds, according to a joint Australian-ACT Government statement.

“Improving the delivery of Home and Community Care services in the ACT provides more options for Canberra’s older people and those with a disability, and helps prevent their premature entry into residential aged care,” said Federal Minster for Ageing, Justine Elliot.
