Aged Care facility has 14 days to comply or face sanctions

Brighton Aged Care in Adelaide, owned by Aged Care Services, is under federal investigation, after an audit raised concerns about potential neglect and basic standards of care.

A review audit of Brighton Aged Care has found the centre was potentially not complying with 14 out of 44 basic accreditation standards, including providing residents with adequate food and water, ensuring they were free from pain, and had a right to privacy and dignity and emotional support.

After the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency raised concerns, a senior federal nursing officer was sent to the home on Monday to examine residents. The home has been given 14 days to improve its standards or face sanctions and will face daily inspections until the agency and the Health Department are satisfied the issues have been resolved.

Last month the Federal Government ordered checks on the 31 homes owned by Aged Care Services Australia Group after ten of its residents were found to be severely underweight at its Ballarat facility, Kirralee Residential Aged Care.
