Blue Care is a Queensland icon

The not-for-profit aged care provider has been nominated as one of Queensland’s top 150 icons.

Not-for-profit Queensland aged care provider Blue Care has been nominated as one of the state’s top 150 icons.

The organisation has been included among 30 inventions or innovations pioneered by Queenslanders to make the 300-strong shortlist.

The competition is part of a Queensland Government initiative to celebrate the state’s 150th birthday.

Blue Care was founded in 1953 as the Blue Nursing Service and has grown into one of Australia’s biggest providers of community health and residential aged care.

The group’s Executive Director Stephen Muggleton said Blue Care was honoured to be listed alongside other Queensland icons such as Qantas, Moreton Bay and XXXX beer.

“Blue Care staff and volunteers provide care for more than 12,500 people every day through nursing, allied health, personal care, domestic assistance, respite, social support, pastoral and volunteer services,” he said.

“Our staff are dedicated to providing personal, trusted and compassionate care for 5,000 residents who call Blue Care facilities home.

“We also support the elderly, people with a disability and others in need in the community to remain independent for as long as possible.”

Queenslanders are ableto vote here the state’s top 150 icons. Voting closes on April 30.
