Delayed deadline for aged care scholarship

The RCNA has announced a two-week extension for applications in the undergraduate aged care nursing scholarship scheme.

The deadline for a scholarship scheme aimed at increasing the number of registered nurses working in aged care has been pushed back.

The undergraduate Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme is designed to help people with experience in the aged care sector to study nursing.

The scheme is funded by the Commonwealth Government and is administered by the Royal College of Nursing Australia (RCNA).

“This scholarship scheme is an important program to help attract nursing students into this particular area of nursing,” said the RCNA’s CEO, Debra Cerasa.

“Registered nurses play an essential role in the sector, and are pivotal in coordinating and overseeing the care of our elderly.”

Undergraduate scholarships are available through the scheme to students studying or planning to study towards a Bachelor of Nursing degree at an Australian University in 2010. Each scholarship is worth up to $30 000 for the duration of the degree.

“Studying at university can be a huge financial commitment,” said Ms Cerasa.

“These scholarships help alleviate that pressure, which can sometimes be the one factor that hinders students from choosing registered nursing as their nursing qualification.”

Applications for the undergraduate Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme were due to close on Friday, 28 August but the deadline has now been extended until 5pm on Friday, 11 September 2009.
