New scholarship for study and travel

A new aged care scholarship program has been announced to support staff members who wish to study and travel to gain new experiences in aged care.

Industry supporter, Provider Assist (formerly the Aged Care Specialists) outlined details about the program at the Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) National Conference in Hobart.

“We are delighted to announce the Provider Assist scholarship program with an annual value of $50,0000,” said company spokesperson, Peter Watson.

Under the program, six state scholarships and a national scholarship will be made available each year.

The winners of the state prizes will receive $2,500 to take part in training or attend a conference.

The national winner will receive a trophy and $35,000 to attend ACSA’s 2011 National Conference Sydney as well as the 2011 SAGE Tour of New York, Chicago and Washington.

Running since 2006, the SAGE Tours are a joint initiative of ACSA, Aged Care Association Australia, the Retirement Village Association of Australia and architect firm, Thomson Adsett.

The tours are designed to give industry leaders a global perspective on aged care and retirement living.

Past tour groups have visited China, the Netherlands, Malta, the USA, Canada and the UK.

“The hospitality extended to us by our international hosts is unbelievable,” said Judy Martin from Thomson Adsett.

“The internal and external networking was something we initially underestimated but from our feedback we know that the delegates have really benefited from that.

“Our colleagues overseas are very happy to swap ideas and information with us.”
