Melbourne’s Jewish Care has appointed experienced aged care executive, Meigan Lefebure, as general manager of services for older people.

With close to 20 years’ experience in the residential aged care sector as a prominent registered nurse and manager, Ms Lefebure has a strong record of leadership.  Her experience includes strategic and financial management and her previous roles include facility manager, chief executive, state operations manager and national manager in compliance.

CEO of Jewish Care, Mr Bill Appleby, said he was delighted to welcome Meigan Lefebure to the Jewish Care leadership team.

“Ms Lefebure’s reputation as a highly effective and accomplished professional in the industry precedes her.”

“I am extremely confident that her expertise will contribute greatly to the ongoing evolution of services for older people within the Melbourne Jewish community,” Mr Appleby said.

Ms Lefebure said she had joined Jewish Care at a significant and exciting time.

“Under the able stewardship of CEO, Bill Appleby, Jewish Care has reviewed its service position and offering and has created extensive plans for improvement and enhancement of community connections and relevance.  I’m thrilled to be here and to join a team of committed and enthusiastic individuals charged with the responsibility of implementing these plans.”

Ms Lefebure said one of Jewish Care’s goals is to grow the services it offers to the elderly in the community – not just in terms of size, but in variety and scope, and to make sure there is simple and effective access for those who need care and support.

“Our largest area of planned growth will be in the provision of in-home help and care for the elderly. Our innovative BlueStar program makes it possible for us to provide home help, or even a personal carer or companion for the elderly living at home.

“This service is highly valued by the families of these older people and it can even be extended into a residential home if respite or permanent care is eventually needed.   For an elderly person entering residential care – to regularly see the familiar face of the BlueStar carer that has been supporting them at home – well, it just makes the transition that much less stressful for all concerned,” Ms Lefebure said.

Ms Lefebure sits on a number of boards and committees, including the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) industry reference group, established by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) to advise and guide the development of the aged care funding tool.  She is also a panel member of DoHA’s Nurse Adviser and Administrator Panel.
