That makes 50

Bupa’s aged care belt is bulging having recently acquired another residential facility, bringing the total number of care homes under the UK brand to 50.

Bupa Care Services has formally announced the purchase of yet another aged care facility in Australia, bringing its nationwide residential aged care portfolio to the total of 50.

The aged care provider formally announced plans to purchase the Shalom nursing home in the south-east Queensland area of Toowoomba, today.

In a media statement released this afternoon, the organisation stated intentions to settle the sale of the facility on 1 August 2012.

Built in 2008, Shalom is a 120 bed home catering to high care, low care and extra service residents.

The new Toowoomba home is in addition to Bupa’s existing property in the town and follows on from the opening of a new home in Bankstown, NSW, and a Hobart home purchase, both earlier this year.

In NSW, new builds are under way in Sutherland and Baulkham Hills, and land has been purchased in Templestowe, which is north-east of Melbourne.

“Bupa has a long history of caring for older people through the provision of health insurance and care homes,” the organisation said in a statement.

“In the 1990s Bupa purchased a portfolio of care homes in the UK and since then has acquired homes in Spain, New Zealand and Australia (2007).

“Today Bupa has 400 homes, caring for more than 30,000 people worldwide.

“Bupa is committed to meeting the needs of the ageing population with plans to further expand its residential aged care portfolio locally.”

Bupa is a company with no shareholders. All profits are reinvested into the business with the aim of helping people to live longer, happier and healthier lives.

  1. IS this the same BUPA that said the government’s reforms would lead to ruin?

Methinks actions speak louder than whines.
