AUDIO: The key to coping while caring for a loved one is knowing what support you need, says the author of a new handbook for carers ahead of its launch on Tuesday.
Author, journalist and carer Josie Gagliano (pictured) told AAA The Australian Ageing Generation Handbook was part memoir and part guide for others in a situation similar to hers.
As the main carer for her mother Concetta who has dementia, and also parent to young children, Ms Gagliano describes herself as one of a growing number of people in the “sandwich generation”.
The book is for people also caught between elderly parents and kids, or even grandkids, because this group is in dire need of support, guidance and discussion, she said.
AAA spoke with Ms Gagliano at a recent event for carers of people with dementia hosted by HammondCare. She begins by describing the book:
The Australian Ageing Generation Handbook will be launched on Tuesday 8 July at Glee Books in Glebe, Sydney.
