AUDIO: There is a place for service and social robots in Australian aged care but they must be fit for the purpose, according to Professor Wendy Moyle, director of the Centre for Health Practice Innovation at Griffith University.
Speaking to the NEWSROOM ahead of her presentation at Aged & Community Services Australia National Conference in Adelaide, Prof Moyle says contrary to the belief of some, robots are not taking over the world.
She says social robots make great companions but should not be used in place of people. Similarly, robots can help with standardising care but as they don’t think like humans they can’t take over the whole care provision.
