New areas of ageing research on show

Emerging researchers in the field of ageing will gather in Melbourne next week to examine some of the key issues facing older Australians, their families and carers.

Among the topics to be addressed include cross-cultural perspectives on ageing, housing, community participation and social inclusion of older adults.

The national conference, hosted by the National Ageing Research Institute, brings together higher degree research students from across a range of disciplines to share their latest work.

More than 40 presentations will canvass topics such as:

  • The rhetoric and reality of aged care nursing: views from the inside – Jenny Davis, Monash University
  • Identifying the barriers and enablers influencing community participation amongst older adults – Nicole Papageorgious, Edith Cowan University
  • The role of e-health in healthy ageing – Urooj Raza Khan, Charles Sturt University
  • Defining sexuality in an ageing population – Ashley Macleod Australian Catholic University.

The conference will also include a rapid fire presentation competition where researchers will have five minutes to showcase their work to a panel of adjudicators.

The 14th National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) will take place 7-8 December in Melbourne. For more information visit the ERA website.
