The Commonwealth Government has released a discussion paper on the proposed changes to aged care legislation to increase choice for consumers in home care and is hosting a webinar to inform aged care stakeholders.

The Commonwealth Government has released a discussion paper on the proposed changes to aged care legislation to increase choice for consumers in home care.

While the Aged Care Legislation Amendment (Increasing Consumer Choice) Act 2016 is in place and will take effect on 27 February 2017, changes are also required to the subordinate legislation. The department is seeking stakeholder feedback on the proposed changes to that legislation for the first stage of the home care reforms.

The department released a consultation paper and an exposure draft of the proposed amendments for the February 2017 changes to home care yesterday, which provide further detail and request feedback on implementation arrangements from aged care providers, consumers, carers and other interested stakeholders.

The consultation documents are available on the Consultation Hub while information about the proposed changes is on the Increasing Choice in Home Care webpage. Submissions close 9 June 2016.

Stakeholder briefing

The department is also seeking stakeholder participation in an upcoming webinar to discuss the issues outlined in the consultation paper and provide opportunity for interested parties to seek clarification on the proposed changes.

The webinar will take place on Friday, 20 May 2016 from 2:30pm – 4pm (AEST).
