The accessibility and quality of mental health services in the bush is the focus of a new parliamentary inquiry.

The accessibility and quality of mental health services in the bush is the focus of a new parliamentary inquiry.

Labor and the Greens passed a motion on 19 March to launch the Senate community affairs committee inquiry to tackle the issue.

The inquiry will investigate the lower rates of access to mental health services and higher rates of suicide in rural and remote Australia.

Attitudes towards mental health services, the mental health workforce and challenges in delivering services will also be examined.

The opportunities offered by technology to improve service delivery will be a key focus of the inquiry.

Public submissions in response to the inquiry’s terms of reference close on 11 May.

The Senate committee is due to hand down its report in October.
