The peak body representing eight of the largest for-profit aged care providers has announced the appointment of a Canberra bureaucrat as its incoming CEO.
Aged Care Guild chair Ross Johnston announced on Monday that Matthew Richter would commence as CEO of the peak association on 1 June this year.
Mr Richter is currently executive director policy and stakeholder relations with the ACT Government Health Directorate, which provides strategic advice and management of government stakeholders in healthcare including aged care.
He has worked for the ACT Government in various roles for the past eight years and previously held a number of positions in the financial services industry including with corporate advisory firm Inteq, global insurance firm Allianz Group and financial group Macquarie.
Mr Richter will replace interim CEO Lee Hill, who was appointed to the role in February following the departure of Cameron O’Reilly, who resigned as CEO in December 2017 after two-and-a-half years leading the association.
Mr Richter’s key achievements at ACT Health include securing more than $100 million of additional funding for health programs, the implementation of several hospital infrastructure and health industry improvement initiatives and the negotiation of national health reform agreements and acts, said Mr Johnson.
“We believe his wealth of experience in the government, health and financial sectors will serve the guild well as we continue to grow the guild’s profile and work alongside policy makers to ensure industry needs are met,” he said.
Mr Richter said he was looking forward to continuing the peak’s advocacy work in the sector.
“A key priority for the guild is working to secure a sustainable funding plan that meets the needs of our ageing Australians and keeps the issues that we face as an industry a priority for the government.
“This is critical to ensure that the sector is able to continue to provide the range of quality services needed by the growing number of ageing Australians,” Mr. Richter said.
