Providers around the country have got behind the inaugural awareness day to celebrate all people working in aged care.
Today marked the first Aged Care Employee Day, an initiative designed to celebrate everyone involved in caring for recipients of aged care services from frontline care staff through to those working in hospitality, lifestyle and administrative services.
The awareness day, which has registered to take place on 7 August annually, has been created and launched by aged care provider the Whiddon Group as a way to better recognise the work the wide spectrum of people working in aged care do on a daily basis.
The Whiddon Group CEO Chris Mamarelis said everyone in the industry deserved special recognition and a day to pay homage to the valuable work they did.
Often people who work in aged care put others’ needs before their own, which is why the nation needs to celebrate their hard work, he said.
Minister for Aged Care Ken Wyatt congratulated Whiddon on launching the initiative and thanked those working in the sector.
“You deserve the highest community appreciation every day of the year, as you care for the older Australians who built the nation we cherish today. Thank you.”

Leading Age Services Australia CEO Sean Rooney also congratulated Whiddon on this initiative.
“It is important to acknowledge how aged care workers make a positive difference in the lives of older Australians 24 hours a day, seven days week, year in year out,” Mr Rooney said.
Benetas, BlueCross SapphireCare and Jewish Care in Victoria were among providers around the country who took to Twitter to publicly recognise and thank their staff today.
