Helping Hand Aged Care has opened its ninth aged care facility, a $37 million aged care home at Golden Grove in Adelaide.

The facility, constructed by Kennett Builders, features 110-beds for permanent placement as well as respite and transition care accommodation and uses sensor technology in bedrooms and smart TVs that allow families to connect with their loved ones (read previous coverage here).

The facility, which includes a café, al fresco dining area, hairdresser, library, gym, internal and external courtyards, and meals cooked onsite, has received strong interest from locals, said Helping Hand CEO Chris Stewart.

“We have been overwhelmed with enthusiasm for this new care home and we can’t wait for our first residents to move in,” Mr Stewart told AAA.

Kennett Builders Golden Grove project manager Gavin Fillmore said the facility was designed to suit residents’ needs.

“Our design has included making sure there is plenty of natural light streaming through and that residents live in a place which is well-lit and comfortable, and where they feel a part of the community,” Mr Fillmore told AAA.

The Jemalong Residential Village, which is now home to 31 Mater Aged Care residents, includes 39 new rooms, a refurbished café, function room and chapel that features relocated religious icons from the Mater facility such as the stained-glass windows.

Also in Forbes, Catholic Healthcare has announced the development of a $1.25 million retirement living village with 19 free-standing villas.

Stage one of the development will commence next month and is expected to complete in June 2020.

Anglican Care has commenced construction of a $20-million aged care facility in Gloucester, New South Wales on land it sought after receiving aged care licences from Gloucester Hospital in August 2015.

Stage one of the development includes single bedrooms with ensuites, a large multi-purpose event and activity area, lounge and dining rooms, a hairdresser and allied health and therapy room.

Anglican Care CEO Colin Osborne said construction of the facility was a significant step forward for the community.

“Gloucester is recognised as having one of the highest proportions of people over the age of 65 in NSW, with 28.4 per cent compared to the state average of 15.7 per cent,” Mr Osborne said.

The facility is expected to take 15 months to build.
