During her shift at Goodwin Village in Ainslie, aged care nurse, Ms Pell walked more than 13,000 steps, far exceeding the 10,000 recommended by many health organisations.
Ms Pell was one of four Canberrans who volunteered to wear a pedometer to calculate their steps during an average working day. The experiment was in support of Friday’s National Walk to Work Day.
She easily beat her fellow volunteers, public servant Colleen Hanrahan, advertising manager Warren Apps and Heart Foundation PR man Tom Biggs.
Mr Biggs took about 10,500 steps, and Ms Hanrahan did just over 7200.
”I go up and down the stairs all day,” said Ms Pell.
”Things happen all the time, and if [a patient] needs you you’ve got to go,” she said.
