Residential aged care staff are encouraged to take part in a survey on  residents’ hearing health to help identify gaps in processes and opportunities for training.

Australian Healthcare Associates is undertaking the survey on behalf of the Department of Health as part of a project to improve hearing health among residents.

The project aims to understand what procedures are in place and what training and other resources are required to improve outcomes for residents while minimising the burden on staff.

The department is calling on aged care management and staff including nurses and personal care workers to take part in the 20-minute anonymous survey.

The results will be used to determine what staff need to identify hearing loss early and access support for residents with hearing loss.

At the end of the survey, participants can opt to register their interest in discussing their views further in a telephone interview.

The survey closes on 26 April.
