Guide highlights incontinence
This year’s national guide for aged care streses that incontinence is not a normal part of ageing.
Recognising and treating incontinence is a major focus of the 2009-10 national guide for aged care.
The guide, which is distributed at no cost to facilities throughout the country, stresses that incontinence should not be accepted as a normal part of ageing.
It provides detailed information designed to help aged care professionals to assist older people with incontinence.
The guide is supported by Aged Care Association Australia (ACAA) which has assisted in its development over the last six years.
“The national guide for aged care is a practical health and wellbeing resource chart for members of the aged care industry,” said ACAA CEO, Rod Young.
“[It] provides managers and employees with up-to-date information to improve both the health and wellbeing of everyone in aged care facilities.”
This year’s guide also features information on slips, trips and falls, dental care and high quality documentation.
The guide will be distributed to all accredited residential aged care facilities across Australia.
