The Department of Health has released a series of new resources to boost the awareness of My Aged Care among Aboriginal communities.
The resources include a short-animated video, which provides an overview of available aged care services and how to access the My Aged Care gateway.
Brochures and short radio advertisements have also been translated into four Aboriginal languages – Arrernte, Pitjantjatjara, Torres Strait Creole (Yumplatok) and Warlpiri – to increase knowledge of available support. A poster has also been produced specifically on help at home services.
A report from the National Audit Office published earlier this year found that older indigenous Australians, particularly from remote areas faced challenges in accessing the My Aged Care phone line and website.
Regional Assessment Services also told the audit office they had received very low referrals to conduct assessments in remote communities.
