Housing highlights at rural conference

The AAG’s 2010 rural conference will look at sustainable neighbourhoods and communities for an ageing population.

Sustainable housing and communities for an ageing population will be the focus of the Australian Association of Gerontology’s 2010 Rural Conference.

Due to be held at Ballina on the NSW far north coast in April, the conference will have the theme ‘Ageing at home’.

The conference organisers are seeking papers that focus on housing options for older people, home modifications and building design and strong communities.

Other topics for consideration include flexible and innovative community services and models of residential care that meet the competing challenges of sustainability.

The conference will consider the benefits of remaining ‘in the community’ as well as the dangers of unsafe homes and neighbourhoods.

Organisers are seeking abstracts of up to 250 words for oral presentations, workshops or posters.

Submissions should include a title, the author’s name, their position and the organisation for which they work.

Authors must also submit a 50-word biography and full contact details.

All accepted presenters need to register and pay for at least one day of the conference with payment received no later than Friday, 12 March 2010.
