New kit for wound treatment
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has produced a multimedia tool to help health professionals treat wounds using the latest methods.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has launched a kit to provide doctors, nurses and allied health professionals with up to date information on wound treatment.
Developed in partnership with the Victorian College of Pharmacy at Melbourne’s Monash University as part of the Government’s Quality Use of Medicines program, the kit will be distributed to over 50,000 health care professionals across the country.
It contains information on 12 types of common wounds among veterans, war widows and other older Australians.
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Alan Griffin said the kit would help draw attention to the importance of effective wound management.
“Many people may not appreciate the importance of wound management,” said Mr Griffin.
“However, it is a significant issue, affecting thousands of veterans and older Australians as their skin becomes increasingly frail and prone to damage.
The new resource contains a wound care wall chart along with a new pocket reference guide and a CD-ROM.
“The kit incorporates the results of new research and development of improved treatments,” said Mr Griffin.
It was launched this week at the Australian Wound Management Association’s national conference in Darwin.
