Accredited practising dietician Julie Dundon has been appointed to the aged care advisory council.

Accredited practising dietician Julie Dundon has been appointed to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Advisory Council.

Ms Dundon – a member of peak body Dieticians Australia and its aged care subject matter lead – has been a long-time advocate of improved nutrition in aged care.

A director of aged care nutrition and dietetic service Nutrition Professionals, Ms Dundon has called for mandatory malnutrition screening and annual food audits as a condition of aged care homes receiving the $10 Basic Daily Fee supplement.

“Julie’s appointment to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Advisory Council will bring deep expertise in the best-practice and evidence-based nutrition in aged care,” said Dieticians Australia CEO Robert Hunt.

The advisory council provides advice to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner and may also advise the aged care minister. Members have knowledge and experience in aged care and diverse backgrounds in areas such as clinical care, service delivery and consumer representation.

“Julie’s appointment is very welcomed, and we trust the minister will give significant weight to her passion for improved nutrition in aged care,” said Mr Hunt.

Ms Dundon’s post runs for two years.
