One-stop shop for medication management
The NPS has launched a new website to help RNs manage complex medication issues in residential aged care.
A new website has been launched to assist registered nurses (RNs) working in residential aged care with complex medication management issues.
The National Prescribing Services (NPS) site is based on a project run across seven aged care facilities in 2007 to determine the primary issues that affect quality medication management.
It provides resources and tools to help with areas such as education, delegation and consultation, recording and using clinical information, monitoring and evaluation, clinical judgment and regulation.
“In the residential aged care sector, medication management is becoming an increasingly complex issue,” said the Manager of Curriculum and Training for NPS, Dr Meg Stuart.
“Aged care residents often have complex medication regimens, which places them at higher risk of experiencing adverse events and interactions.”
The website also allows nurses to share information other about medication management issues and provide feedback on existing resources.
Launching, the website in Canberra, the Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot said the new website was a valuable addition to the range of resources for aged care nurses.
“This website is practical and evidence-based. It forms a one-stop shop for health professionals working in our aged care facilities,” she said.
Mrs Elliot also said at the launch that grant recipients in the upcoming $8.7 million round of the Encouraging Best Practice in Residential Aged Care (EBPRAC) program would be announced in December.
