Positive Ageing Summit launches
A new event focusing on reablement, mental health and nutrition aims to help aged care leaders and changemakers translate the evidence on allied health and therapy into practice.
We are excited to announce Positive Ageing Summit – a two-day conference bringing experts, health and aged care professionals, policymakers and consumers together to explore the critical role of reablement and restorative care in transforming care and outcomes for older Australians.
The conference – hosted by Positive Impact Media and its aged care sector titles Australian Ageing Agenda and Community Care Review – is centred on three core pillars that underpin wellbeing and quality of life: reablement, mental health and nutrition.
Taking place in Adelaide next May, the event will deliver practical sessions on how to translate allied health, therapy and active engagement evidence into practice from prevention to end of life.
Dr Tim Henwood – principal consultant at AgeFIT Solutions and conference advisor – says embedding services that ensure client wellbeing under a sustainable service model have proven difficult in the aged care sector.
“Barriers to a good service are significant and include a poor understanding of evidence-based practice, lack of service leadership, difficulty attracting and retaining good staff, provider and client health knowledge and health priorities.
“While overcoming these barriers and breaking decades of prioritising care is difficult, not pivoting towards this change will come with significant consequences,” Dr Henwood tells Australian Ageing Agenda.
On top of the growing evidence about allied health, therapy and physical, social and mental engagement is the emergence of innovative programs and practices delivering health benefits to clients while also enhancing the organisation’s reputation as providers of person-centred care.
“The Positive Ageing Summit aims to break down these programs into tangible pieces of information delegates can embed into their service and organisation. Ideas they can be proud to hang their hats on as clients realise positive change, and ideas that cost their organisation nothing but the peace of mind they are promoting the wellbeing of those they care for,” says Dr Henwood.
The Positive Ageing Summit program covers a range of topics including dementia, workforce and frailty. It also includes several networking opportunities on both days.
In addition to Dr Henwood, confirmed speakers include:
- Jo Boylan, Clayton Church Homes chief executive officer and co-author of Healthcare Insights: The Voice of the Consumer; the Provider and the Work Design
- Dr Jennie Hewitt, a physiotherapist and general manager of clinical research and reablement at aged care provider Whiddon.
Dr Henwood encourages aged care organisation changemakers to attend the summit.
“If you want to learn what evidenced-based allied health, therapy and engagement can do for your organisation, and how you can embrace it in a financially sustainable, socially equitable manner, you should attend this event.”
Positive Ageing Summit takes place at Hilton Adelaide on 28 and 29 May 2025.
