Classic bikes on show for Central Coast residents
Residents at an aged care home on the NSW Central Coast were treated to a classic motorbike show Thursday.
Residents at an aged care home on the New South Wales Central Coast would have been forgiven for wondering what all the noise was on Thursday as 15 classic motorbikes rolled up the driveway.
The classic bike show at Uniting Nareen Gardens Lodge is one of many activities organised to mark NSW Seniors’ Festival – the largest celebration for seniors in the southern hemisphere.
Uniting leisure and wellness coordinator Shannon Roughan said the not-for-profit provider has a packed calendar in store for its residents.
“Not only fun – such as our classic bike show, our kindi farm and mocktail afternoon – but also some more serious stuff as well, such as having the SES to come by to speak about storm and flooding safety and how to handle bush fire season. We are looking at a jammed packed seniors’ festival this year,” said Ms Roughan.
The motorbikes on show were supplied by the Central Coast Classic Motorbike Club. All are more than 30 years’ old – ranging from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Ahead of the event, bike club president Peter Redman said he thought the British bikes would be the most popular with residents. “Like the Triumph and BSA … because they are the bikes that residents can relate to.”
Some BMWs and Japanese models were also on display, as was a motorbike and sidecar.
The event, said Ms Roughan, was intended to boost residents’ wellbeing. “We are hoping to bring joy and happiness to our residents with something different.”
