A small business owner near Perth has brought joy to aged care residents by bringing soft serve ice cream to their doorstep.

The Milky Monster owner Leah Endersby took  her ice cream van to residents at Baptistcare Gracehaven Residential Care in Rockingham south of Perth after hearing about visitor restrictions.

It was in response to a Facebook post  from Baptistcare seeking volunteers to connect with residents.

Ms Endersby said old-fashioned soft serve ice cream was the ultimate feel good food.

“Ice cream represents happiness across the generations,” Ms Endersby said.

“It makes children jump for joy and for older people it is a nostalgic treat that takes them back to their younger days.”

The mobile soft serve ice cream van was meant to be a one-off treat from a volunteer but could it become more regular.

Because it was a such a hit with the residents, Baptistcare is looking into doing it on a more frequent basis, a spokesperson for Baptistcare told Australian Ageing Agenda.
