Senior managers in aged care will be given a first look at the new national guidelines for spiritual care as part of a series of workshops to be held in June.

The national workshops are designed to explain the new guidelines to the sector ahead of their release later this year and assist with their implementation into industry practice.

The Australian-first guidelines, which apply to both community and residential aged care, were developed from a literature review and wide-ranging consultation with industry stakeholders.

The spiritual care guidelines project is a collaboration between Meaningful Ageing Australia (formerly PASCOP), Spiritual Health Victoria (SHV) and the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), and funded by the Federal Government.

Workshop participants will discuss an action plan for incorporating the guidelines within their organisations, key success factors and barriers to their rollout and tools and resources to support their use by staff.

The relationship of spiritual care to complementary philosophies such as person-centred care and CDC will also be discussed.

The workshops, which take place 20-29 June, are targeted to CEOs, directors of care, case managers, lifestyle managers and spiritual care practitioners, with a limit of two people per site.

All participants will receive a pre-release copy of the guidelines.
