Residents knit beanies for babies
Residents from Brisbane retirement communities have hand-knitted blankets and beanies for charity.
Residents from Brisbane’s TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community and St Luke’s Green Retirement Community have joined forces to knit items for those in need.
Blankets and beanies have been the main items created and gifted to local charities and premature babies at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community resident Christine Dale, 81, has a granddaughter who works as a midwife at Gold Coast University Hospital, and she expressed her pride for the work she does there.
“I’m very blessed to be surrounded by other residents who enjoy giving back just as much as I do – it means a lot to me that I can help those in need and make my granddaughter proud,” said Ms Dale.
“It was a great day spent connecting with the residents from St Luke’s Green and working together to create some beautiful donations.”
TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Facility manager Robyn Bryant praised the collaboration that enabled residents to connect with their like-minded counterparts across facilities to support others.
“We are grateful to have such wonderful residents at our facility that love giving back to the community and making a difference,” Ms Bryant said.
“Volunteering is very important to the residents at TriCare and something we encourage. There’s nothing better than putting a smile on someone’s face or making their day from an act of kindness.”
