Supporting and empowering older adults 

Video: Allied health professional Simon Kerrigan shares his passion for positive ageing, his work in aged care, and appreciation for being named a finalist for the Paul Johnson Award.

To Guide Healthcare managing director Simon Kerrigan, positive ageing is about supporting and empowering older adults in residential aged care and community settings to have a good quality of life and achieve their goals. 

“And to have a great experience within their aged care setting,” Mr Kerrigan told Australian Ageing Agenda.   

In May, Mr Kerrigan was named one of three finalists of the inaugural Paul Johnson Positive Ageing Award, which is an initiative of the Positive Ageing Summit. 

Named in honour of the late Paul Johnson, the award includes a prize sponsored by not-for-profit aged care provider BallyCara, where Mr Johnson spent over a decade pursuing healthy active ageing. 

“I’m incredibly grateful, and appreciative to be a finalist,” Mr Kerrigan told AAA on the sidelines of the summit, where he was awarded a certificate for the honour by BallyCara executive chairman Marcus Riley.
