Women researchers in ageing gather

Career opportunities and pathways in ageing research will be the focus of an upcoming seminar for emerging women researchers held by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) on Thursday.

The Melbourne event brings together early-career and established women researchers to share their interests in ageing research, have an opportunity to network and gain insights into developing and maintaining a career from established leaders in the sector.

The seminar will include a panel of senior experienced researchers discussing issues such as where the research opportunities are for women, what it is like to work in an evolving research environment, how to win grants, mentoring and career paths.

Speakers include: Clinical Associate Professor Briony Dow (Panel Chair) from NARI; Professor Elizabeth Ozanne, The University of Melbourne’s Department of Social Work; Professor Jeni Warburton, La Trobe University and Professor Collette Browning, Monash University.

Debra O’Connor, NARI Deputy Director said the women panelists are all champions of ageing research and leaders in their own field.

“The seminar is ideal for both emerging and established women researchers to learn more about the extraordinary amount of research underway and the opportunities for development.”

The event will be held on Thursday (2.30pm – 4.30pm) at Russell Kennedy’s offices, 469 La Trobe St, Melbourne.
