New ‘one stop shop’ for disability research
The Centre for Applied Disability Research has launched a new Disability Knowledge Clearing House that aims to connect service providers and consumers with the latest research evidence.
The Centre for Applied Disability Research has launched a new Disability Knowledge Clearing House that aims to connect service providers and consumers with the latest research evidence.
Gordon Duff, general manager of sector development and research at national peak body National Disability Services, said the clearing house provided links to a wide range of information and resources to help inform policy and practice.
“It will assist NDIS participants access the right supports and disability service providers to deliver best practice evidence-based services,” he said.
Mr Duff described the clearing house as a “one stop shop for disability knowledge”.
The site provides the opportunity for users to browse and find material related to specific disability groups, support types, locations and formats, and to search by nine key domains aligned to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
A collection of Research to Action guides, which summarise research findings on key topics, are also available.
“The 2014 Audit of Disability Research found that there is no critical mass of research on topics of priority to the National Disability Strategy and the NDIS. We need to create a mature research base with focus, depth, quality and coherence to support once in a generation disability reform,” said Mr Duff.
He said the aim of the hub was to build the most comprehensive collection of disability research and resources for the Australian context.
