Coinciding with International Nurses Day, Decision Assist has launched a new free app today, palliAGEDnurse, to help nurses working in community care, residential aged care and general practice care for older people with palliative care needs.

PalliAGEDNurseThe app highlights a care framework built around three care processes – advance care planning, palliative care case conferences, and a care plan for the dying person.

Nurses using the app can navigate quickly to the three care processes.

More specific information relevant to their practice setting can also be retrieved.

An online-offline capability means nurses can use the app anywhere in Australia – including in rural and remote areas. And as the app is web-based, it can also be updated as new evidence and resources are released.

palliAGEDnurse was developed by the CareSearch Project Team at Flinders University as part of the Decision Assist program, which is funded by the Australian Government. It is a companion to the successful palliAGEDgp app, and is available through app stores.

Webinars, eLearning

Elsewhere, Decision Assist is offering a series of 40-minute free webinars available live and on demand targeting people working in the aged care sector. They are:

  • Undertreated Pain – effective pain management for people with dementia (available online)
  • Communication at the End of Life – meeting the needs of the family (live 19 May)
  • Recognising the Deteriorating Client – what to look for (no date available)

They have also developed self-paced eLearning modules that offering an introduction to the palliative approach and advance care planning for staff in community aged care. Staff will receive a certificate at the completion of the online modules.

  1. Hi
Just to add this Palliative Care App to your radar. It includes a Syringe Driver compatibility tool and three different guides for palliative care professionals. It doesn’t need the internet once installed on you iPhone/iPad. Links here:
