Beyond Sunbeam – Best practice exercise for older adults and new opportunities as the aged care system reforms
November 9, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
HUR Australia Webinar on November 9th discusses the best practice exercise programs for older adults and the opportunities AN-ACC offers
As the Aged care reform is underway in Australia, there is a sense of uncertainty on the role of allied health after the transition from ACFI to AN-ACC. However, the new model offers an opportunity to surpass the previous shortcomings and deliver programs that match the outcome standards recommended by the Australian Aged Care Royal Commission. The new funding tool offers a great potential for Allied Health staff to use their training and expertise to deliver best practice care.
Evidence shows that exercise works for falls prevention, pain management, restoration and reablement, also for those with cognitive impairment, responding to all key recommendations from the Australian Aged Care Royal Commission.
This webinar’s guest speaker, Dr Jennie Hewitt, lead researcher of the Sunbeam Program, will discuss the implementation, prescription, and appropriate progression of successful exercise programs for people living with complex conditions and multiple morbidities.
For clinicians we will explore evidence-based exercise for people with a cognitive impairment, sarcopenia, frailty, other complex diagnoses, and present real life case presentations.
For management we will present various ways of implementing and sustainably scaling exercise programs using AN-ACC.
The webinar concludes in an extended Q&A to discuss real-world barriers and facilitators.
