Embolden 2023 Symposium

October 3, 2023 @ 12:00 am - October 5, 2023 @ 12:00 am

Embolden2023 is a National Symposium combatting ageism and building respect for older people. The Embolden events were established in 2018, to embolden (build capacity/confidence) of service providers, community leaders and older people in ways that accelerate the pace of change. Embolden2023 will focus on cultural dimensions of ageism and practical primary prevention strategies. This year’s theme Words Make Worlds draws on theories of language as a powerful tool for change.

The Embolden2023 Program is structured to engage participants in sharing their expertise and strategies for change. We want to ensure participants leave feeling inspired – and with plans for leading change. Over 50+ presenters will contribute to a Congress of Older People’s Voices from the Margins, a [re]Design Café and interactive sessions exploring language and primary prevention campaigns. Key speakers include Linguist Professor Kate Burridge on the power of Language and Dr Stephanie Dowrick on worker and carer fatigue and burnout.

Embolden2023 is an initiative of Celebrate Ageing Ltd and we are pleased to announce Elder Rights Advocacy as our Principal Partner. Other partners include Older Person’s Advocacy Network (OPAN), Australian Association of Gerontology, ADA Australia, The Older Women’s Network NSW and QueerSpace Drummond St.
