New/Old: Designing to Defy Ageism

September 7, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

The Royal Commission into Aged Care laid bare not just a flawed system but a collective failure of imagination in the way we approach ageing and ageism in Australia. But its recommendations barely mentioned design, much less conceived it as a possible solution.

This panel discussion invites four different innovators to explore how better design – of not just space but policy – can help us fight ageism and create the homes, communities and care we want for ourselves and our families. We’ll explore unconscious ageism and stereotypes, the roadblocks these create for contemporary seniors, and key solutions for designing more inclusive, empathetic, innovative communities.

Panellists include James Kelly, Seniors Living & Care Partner at ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects, Prof Pazit Levinger, Principal Researcher and exercise physiologist at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), Natasha Wilkinson, CEO of Donwood Community Aged Care, and Dr Kaele Stokes, Dr Kaele Stokes, Executive Director of Advocacy and Research at Dementia Australia. Our moderator is David Wright-Howie, Senior Policy Officer, Aged Care Reform at COTA (Council on the Ageing).

Join us for a free, inspiring discussion for all ages.
