By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the regulatory and legislative requirements for common home care job roles
  • Describe the guidelines of professional bodies in relation to home care job roles
  • Define professional boundaries and scope of practice and relationship to role and tasks
  • Identify and manage risk factors, including reporting breaches of professional boundaries
  • State the importance of professional codes of conduct, local policies and procedures
  • Define an organisational ‘Zone of Helpfulness’
  • Managing the ‘grey’ areas in role boundaries and scope of practice
  • Recognise staff behaviours and practices that lead to boundaries being compromised
  • Identify scope of practice issues for consumers with unstable health and/or complex needs
  • Describe duty of care in relation to the organisation and the staff member
  • State qualifications, job roles and assessment of skills required for roles and responsibilities
  • Identify indicative signs and managing inappropriate breaches
  • Communicate boundaries and scope of practice with consumers
  • Describe communication techniques to manage difficult conversations with consumers and staff
