Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the regulatory and legislative requirements for common home care job roles
- Describe the guidelines of professional bodies in relation to home care job roles
- Define professional boundaries and scope of practice and relationship to role and tasks
- Identify and manage risk factors, including reporting breaches of professional boundaries
- State the importance of professional codes of conduct, local policies and procedures
- Define an organisational ‘Zone of Helpfulness’
- Managing the ‘grey’ areas in role boundaries and scope of practice
- Recognise staff behaviours and practices that lead to boundaries being compromised
- Identify scope of practice issues for consumers with unstable health and/or complex needs
- Describe duty of care in relation to the organisation and the staff member
- State qualifications, job roles and assessment of skills required for roles and responsibilities
- Identify indicative signs and managing inappropriate breaches
- Communicate boundaries and scope of practice with consumers
- Describe communication techniques to manage difficult conversations with consumers and staff
