Why are Validated Assessment Tools important?

Older people requiring home care often have complex care needs, so accurate and timely assessment using recognised assessment tools to determine short and long-term care needs. Aiming for a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and consumer-focused approach to assessment can be challenging with pressures on time and resources.

This can result in selecting a defined number of assessments that can compromise the extent to which the assessment is truly comprehensive. There are five domains that should be explored to achieve a comprehensive assessment: physical, psychological, functional, social, and spiritual.
