$50,000 in aged care scholarships up for grabs

Anyone working for an approved provider is eligible to win funding for conference attendance and further education — unless they are a CEO.

People working in aged care throughout Australia have the opportunity to further their education and industry experience through Provider Assist’s new scholarship program.

Entries for the six state scholarships, valued at $2,500, are now open and anyone employed by an approved provider is eligible to win the prize, unless they are a CEO.

Winners of the state scholarships will receive registration, travel and accommodation for a state industry association conference, a $1,000 voucher for attending seminars and workshops, along with a trophy and plaque.

The six state winners will also be in the running to win the national scholarship, which is valued at $35,000.

It includes airfares and accommodation to attend the 2011 IAHSA International Conference in Chicago, along with registration, travel and accommodation for the 2011 ACSA (Aged and Community Services Australia) National Conference in Sydney. The national scholarship winner will be accompanied by their CEO, courtesy of Provider Assist.

Provider Assist’s marketing manager, Kara Towner said the scholarship was an opportunity for aged workers to receive valuable training and support.

“It’s such an under-resourced, overregulated and underpaid industry that we wanted to try and help all those people who work in aged care in whatever way we thought would be most beneficial,” she said.

“Everybody who works in this industry generally does it for the love of the residents, not for the pay.

“And we feel that everyone who works in aged care is an amazing person because they are there to give and everyone who gives every day should be eligible to apply.”

Nominees must explain their achievements in the industry and describe how they would benefit from the scholarship program.

The nomination forms need to be submitted by:
– 31 January in Victoria;
– 1 February in Tasmania;
– 1 February in New South Wales;
– 1 February in Queensland;
– 1 April in Western Australia; and
– 2 May in South Australia.
