Following the March announcement that Calvary Health Care’s national chief executive officer Martin Bowles will retire in July, the mission-driven not-for-profit healthcare provider has appointed Damien Bruce to take on the role from September.

For the past 20 years, Mr Bruce has been senior partner at McKinsey & Company – overseeing the Health, Social and Public Sector Practice for Asia. He has expertise in strategy and transformation, and has worked across Europe, North America and Asia.

Mr Bruce will bring passion to improving access to quality health and aged care to the new role – having a long history of supporting not-for-profits, including serving on the board of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Victoria) since 2013.

Calvary chair Jim Birch welcomed the appointment saying Mr Bruce’s extensive experience and capabilities transforming global health and aged care organisations made him an outstanding choice to strategically lead Calvary’s future.

“Damien will continue to guide the implementation of Calvary’s Great Connected Care strategy, building on the exceptional leadership of Martin Bowles over the past eight years,” he said.

“Martin’s inspiring leadership has guided Calvary through a period of significant change and challenge. His vision and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in transforming Calvary into a modern, responsive health care provider that meets the evolving needs of the communities we serve. His legacy lays a strong foundation for the future.”
