ECH names Alan Morrison chief executive
The hospital CEO and HESTA deputy chair says he is looking forward to supporting the 7,000 older South Australians receiving care through ECH to continue living independently at home.
Experienced health sector leader Alan Morrison has been appointed chief executive of South Australian profit-for-purpose retirement living and home care provider ECH – Enabling Confidence at Home.
Mr Morrison will start the role in January 2026, after departing from his current role as chief executive officer of Adelaide’s Burnside Hospital. He is also the deputy chair of HESTA Super Fund.
He brings more than two decades of leadership experience in the health sector to his new role at ECH. His previous roles include 11 years as CEO of healthcare provider Sportsmed and various positions at professional services network KPMG in Australia and the United Kingdom.
He replaces Claire Scapinello who was chief executive from June 2022 until May 2025.
Mr Morrison said he was proud to support ECH’s purpose of helping people get more out of life and looked forward to working with the 800-strong team to build on ECH’s strengths in the coming years.
“ECH plays an important role in the community, supporting more than 7,000 older South Australians to live independently at home or in a retirement village,” he said. “This makes it well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.”

ECH board chair Rosina Hislop said Mr Morrison’s fresh perspective would enable ECH to strengthen its reputation and respond to industry challenges and opportunities, including the implementation of the new Support at Home program.
“Alan is known for his innovative and insightful leadership and his ability to find original solutions for complex challenges,” Ms Hislop said.
“He has a proven record for delivering better outcomes for customers, staff and partners and fostering a strong, positive company culture.
“Alan is also experienced in guiding organisations through times of industry-wide change and uncertainty.”
Interim chief executive Mark Watson will work closely with Mr Morrison during a handover period to maintain continuity of care and ensure a smooth transition across all ECH services.
