ACT provider Goodwin Aged Care has announced the appointment of Kirolos Wasef as its new in-house pharmacist.

ACT provider Goodwin Aged Care has announced the appointment of Kirolos Wasef as its new in-house pharmacist.
Mr Wasef, who is the second person to take on the role since it was established in November 2018, is a certified geriatric pharmacist and qualified immuniser with more than 17 years of experience in community pharmacy and consultancy.
In his new role, Mr Wasef is working five days a week across Goodwin’s four residential care facilities as well as supporting clinical oversight for Goodwin home care clients.
He is responsible for the increased regularity of medication reviews, boosting residents’ and families’ understanding of medication, improving safety in administration and usage and reducing polypharmacy and chemical restraint.
He also leads Goodwin’s annual influenza vaccination program.
Mr Wasef said he was honoured to take on the role.
“Medication is an important part of every person’s later life. I’m here to assist our teams to continue raising the bar and upkeep best practice in safe dispensation of medication to our residents,” Mr Wasef said.
Goodwin executive manager clinical and health services Tamra MacLeod said the embedded pharmacist role supported quality of care.
Ms MacLeod said since the introduction of the in-house pharmacist at Goodwin, the provider has achieved improvements and time reductions in medication rounds.
Mr Wasef has taken over from Richard Thorpe, who stepped down in August this year after almost two years in the role.
