Goodwin recruits new CEO in-house

Canberra-based aged care provider Goodwin Aged Care Services appoints Stephen Holmes as CEO.

Canberra-based not-for-profit aged care provider Goodwin Aged Care Services has appointed existing executive Stephen Holmes as chief executive officer.

Mr Holmes, who joined the organisation as chief operating officer in 2014, comes to the CEO role with more than 25 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector in areas such as housing, education, health, animal welfare and community care.

“Goodwin is a caring organisation which places residents, clients and employees at the heart of everything they do,” said Mr Holmes in a statement. “I feel privileged to be given the responsibility to lead an organisation that holds an outstanding reputation for care service delivery and accommodation for seniors.”

Established in 1954, Goodwin Aged Care Service’s is the longest-standing aged care provider in the Australian Capital Territory. It provides residential and home aged care services, independent living, and health and wellness centres for senior Australians.

Reflecting on how the aged care sector has changed in recent years, Mr Holmes said: “I have observed substantial changes across residents’ and clients’ needs, wants and preferences, extensive focus on non-clinical services and an increase in the volume of much-needed regulation and scrutiny on aged care service providers.”

Over the next five years, the provider’s focus will be on implementing reforms arising from the royal commission’s recommendations, said Goodwin Aged Care Services chair Liesel Wett. Mr Holmes’ experience will help the organisation deliver those reforms and “strengthen the organisation’s vision of providing quality care for seniors,” said Ms Wett.
