A not-for-profit is one of the first groups to sign up for a NSW Government program to help local business reduce their environmental impact.
UnitingCare Ageing is preparing for a greener future with the recent appointment of a new Manager for Environmental Sustainability
Michael Mathias has worked in senior environmental positions for the Australian Defence Force and Sydney Water.
His passion for the environment however dates back to his time at university, where he obtained degrees in biology and law.
Now Mr Mathias will dedicate himself to greening UnitingCare’s 80 facilities in NSW and the ACT.
His first task will involve visiting sites throughout the organisation’s six regions to investigate environmentally friendly measures which can be implemented.
Mr Mathias will focus in particular on opportunities to save energy and water consumption.
He is committed to maintaining high standards of care while creating and continuing environmentally sustainable practices.
“Living sustainably should be part of our everyday routines,” Michael said.
“By implementing sustainable practices we not only improve our impact on the world around us but our quality of life overall.”
