HammondCare announces Mike Baird as incoming CEO

Aged care provider HammondCare has announced former New South Wales premier Mike Baird will replace Dr Stephen Judd as chief executive officer from September.

Dr Judd, who has spent more than 25 years at the helm, said he told the organisation of his intention to step down in July 2019.

His last day will be 31 August ahead of Mr Baird commencing as CEO the following day.

Mr Baird joins HammondCare with extensive leadership experience in both the government and banking sectors.

He was Premier of NSW between 2014 to 2017 as part of 10 years in the NSW Parliament as Member for Manly and Treasurer from 2011 to 2014.

Mr Baird has also held multiple executive roles in the banking sector most recently as chief customer officer of consumer banking at NAB among other global roles including with NAB, HSBC and Deutsche Bank.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics and a Diploma of Christian Studies from Regent College in Canada.

Mr Baird said he was excited to join HammondCare.

“I didn’t have to look much further than their mission to see that this was a cause I wanted to be a part of – ‘Our passion is improving quality of life for people in need,’” Mr Baird said.

“On a daily basis, living out the mission for HammondCare are 4,000 staff and 1,000 volunteers. I can think of no greater privilege than to help them care for some of the most vulnerable people across Australia,” he said.

HammondCare chair John Kightley welcomed Mr Baird to the organisation.

“I am excited to welcome Mike Baird to HammondCare from September 1 and I am confident his appointment will help ensure the continuing success of HammondCare both in organisational performance and in the relentless pursuit of our mission to improve quality of life for people in need,” Mr Kightley said.

He also thanked Dr Judd for his service to the organisation.

“Since he became chief executive in 1995, HammondCare has grown from serving 250 clients with an annual revenue of $8 million, to caring for more than 25,000 people, with 2018-19 revenue of more than $300 million.

“As chair of the HammondCare board, it has been a privilege to work alongside Stephen for the past 10 years,” Mr Kightley said.
